The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has secured a death sentence against Ibrahim Usman, also known as Dan Iyali, over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and killing of three people in Sokoto State in September 2023.
Usman was tried on a four-count charge before the High Court of Justice of Sokoto State, sitting in the Sokoto Judicial Division, alongside other suspects who remain at large.
The charges included criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, culpable homicide punishable by death, and voluntarily causing grievous hurt without provocation.
The DSS said the latest conviction followed its successful prosecution of Usman in connection with the September 2023 incident.
The development comes months after the agency secured death sentences against three other men, including a Nigerien national, over terrorism and arms proliferation-related offences in Sokoto State.
The three convicts — Yusuf Muhammad, also known as Sallau, a Nigerien national; Jabbi Alhaji Yalle; and Kabiru Muhammad — were sentenced to death by hanging in June 2026 by the Sokoto State High Court.
They were convicted after being arrested by the DSS Counter Terrorism Unit in June 2025 over alleged involvement in cross-border criminal activities, including arms trafficking and terrorism.
