The Flamingos of Nigeria have won the 2026 WAFU-B U-17 Girls Cup after completing a perfect campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Togo in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
Nigeria finished the tournament unbeaten, winning all five of their matches to underline their dominance throughout the competition.
Captain Chidera Harmony starred in the final, scoring twice from the penalty spot to put Nigeria firmly in control before half-time.
Harmony opened the scoring in the 15th minute, calmly converting a penalty before adding a second spot-kick 20 minutes later to give the Flamingos a 2-0 lead at the break.
Nigeria continued to dictate proceedings after the restart, with Oluebube Umejiaku extending the advantage in the 67th minute.
With Togo unable to find a response, the Flamingos continued to push forward in search of more goals.
Oluwakemi Adegbuyi completed the rout in the 90th minute, making it 4-0 and sealing the regional title for Nigeria.
The triumph capped an impressive tournament for the Flamingos, who combined attacking efficiency with defensive discipline to maintain a perfect record.
The victory also extended Nigeria’s winning streak to five matches in the competition.
For coach Hakeem Busari and his players, the title provides a timely boost as they continue preparations for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
Meanwhile, Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Emmanuel Ikpeme, praised the players and officials for their performance at the championship.
“The Flamingos have done very well, made the nation proud, and I have faith in the players that they are not done yet. I have confidence in the team to go to Morocco and achieve great things at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup that is starting next month.
“It is no mean feat to win five matches out of five in a tournament. That is a distinction. The NFF is appreciative of the WAFU-B headquarters for organising the tournament as a premium preparatory event for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, and I believe the Flamingos have benefitted immensely ahead of the global competition,” Ikpeme said.
The Flamingos, who won bronze at the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, are expected to return to Nigeria on Tuesday.
