The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Zamfara State, Senator Kabir Marafa, has pledged to end insecurity in the state within two years if elected governor in the 2027 general elections, saying he would resign if he failed to deliver on the promise.
Marafa made the declaration on Wednesday at his residence in Gusau during a media chat with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council.
The engagement focused on his emergence as the NDC governorship candidate and his plans to tackle the challenges confronting the state if elected.
The former senator and commissioner said his experience in government had given him a clear understanding of Zamfara’s challenges and how to address them.
“I served as a commissioner for many years in this state. I also served as a senator for many years. I know the problems of this state and how to solve them,” he said.
Marafa said he would prioritise insecurity if elected governor, promising to tackle insurgency, kidnapping and other forms of criminality within two years.
“If I am elected governor in the forthcoming general elections, give me a period of two years and I will end insecurity in this state,” he said.
“If I cannot bring an end to insecurity, insurgency, kidnapping and other criminalities in Zamfara State within the period of two years, I will voluntarily resign.”
The NDC candidate also urged residents of Zamfara to support the party and its candidates in the 2027 elections.
He promised that his administration would prioritise peace, progress and stability if elected.
Earlier on Tuesday, Marafa donated campaign vehicles to the NDC state chairman, the Director-General of the campaign organisation and other zonal campaign executives.
The donation followed the flag-off of the party’s campaign activities on Monday and was described as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s campaign structure and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 elections.
