The Osun State Police Command has summoned Francis Fadahunsi, the senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his now-viral comment in which he allegedly told supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.
The summons, seen by The Telegraph, follows widespread outrage on social media over the senator’s remarks, which were made while addressing All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters during a campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday.
In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police invited Fadahunsi to “clarify the circumstances” surrounding the statements allegedly made during the campaign.
The letter, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State, directed the senator to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11am on Wednesday, August 12.
“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter reads.
‘I meant kill them with votes’
In a video circulated on X on Tuesday, Fadahunsi, who spoke in Yoruba, appeared to call on APC supporters to attack members of the Accord Party.
“From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too,” he said.
The remarks sparked widespread backlash, prompting the senator to clarify his comments and deny any intention to incite violence.
In a statement titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” Fadahunsi’s team said the senator was calling on supporters to defeat the Accord Party through the ballot rather than through physical violence.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the statement said.
According to the team, the remark was intended as a call for supporters to “overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means” in the August 15 governorship election.
The development comes amid heightened political tensions in Osun ahead of the governorship election.
Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party, has repeatedly accused the APC of using thugs to attack and kill his supporters.
