Renowned Nollywood filmmaker and director Dimbo Atiya has died.
Atiya reportedly passed away on Thursday morning, although the cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
The founder of the Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, announced the filmmaker’s passing in a post on Instagram.
He wrote, “Dimbo Atiya is dead. The top Nollywood director passed on this morning. Details later.”
Actor Mofe Duncan also paid tribute to Atiya, describing his death as a huge loss to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
“God no, not Dimbo. I’m devastated. One of the greatest minds of the entertainment industry,” Duncan wrote on Instagram.
As of the time of filing this report, Atiya’s family and representatives had yet to issue an official statement on the circumstances surrounding his death.
His passing has sent shockwaves through Nollywood, with colleagues and fans taking to social media to mourn the acclaimed director and celebrate his contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
