The Chief Medical Director of the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Olawale Olakulehin, has announced the discharge of 31 of the 39 pupils rescued after being abducted from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Olakulehin said the pupils were discharged after medical professionals certified them fit and they were reunited with their families.
The CMD disclosed that the hospital received 39 rescued children following their release from captivity, adding that eight others would remain admitted for further observation and treatment.
He said the discharge of the 31 pupils marked a significant step in the rehabilitation process, while assuring that the remaining children would continue to receive comprehensive medical care until they fully recover.
The hospital also assured parents and the public that the physical and psychological well-being of all the rescued children remains a priority, with medical experts continuing to monitor their recovery.
The development comes days after the pupils and their teachers were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde formally received the rescued victims on Monday, commending security agencies and other stakeholders involved in securing their release.
During the reception, Makinde said the circumstances surrounding the abduction were serious enough to require an independent investigation beyond Nigeria’s domestic institutions.
The governor said an international probe would not undermine local agencies but would help establish the facts of the incident, improve public confidence and promote accountability.
However, the Senate and the Presidency criticised the proposal, arguing that Nigeria has the capacity and institutions to investigate security-related incidents within the country.
