Gunmen abduct ex-minister Adelabu’s sister, children in Ibadan

Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.
The twin children and sister of the former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, have been abducted in Ibadan, the state capital.

An eyewitness told The Telegraph that the incident occurred on Wednesday in the Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area.

Confirming the development, one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, said the victims were kidnapped by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge.

“Adelabu’s younger sister, together with her twin sons (Peter and Paul), were kidnapped this morning by unknown gunmen at Elewura, Challenge, Ibadan,” Awogboro said.

“The family members were on their way out from Elewura heading towards the expressway when they were attacked and whisked away by the assailants,” he added.

The incident comes amid a series of recent abductions in the state. On May 15, 2026, over 40 teachers and students were reportedly kidnapped during a coordinated attack at Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area.

In another case, a chieftain of the APC in the state, Wale Oriade, was abducted in December 2025 at his office located at PJ Square Shopping Complex, near the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited station in Elewure, along the Iyana Ajanla axis of the Akala Expressway, Ibadan.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in a blue Nissan Micra with two occupants, a driver and an armed man before forcibly taking Oriade away.

“The nature of the attack and the precision with which it was carried out have caused deep concern within the community,” an eyewitness said.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command was yet to confirm the incident.

“I cannot independently verify this for now, but please hold on,” he said in a brief response to Crime Reporters Oyo.
