The trio of Senators Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye, and Chief Ebuka Onunkwo have emerged as the senatorial candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State.
Umeh clinched the party’s ticket for Anambra Central, while Nwoye and Onunkwo emerged candidates for Anambra North and Anambra South, respectively.
They secured the tickets during the party’s primary elections for National and State Assembly positions held across Anambra State on Friday.
The exercise, conducted using the Option A4 voting system, began with the accreditation of registered party members, with voting commencing in the afternoon amid a strong turnout.
The primaries also produced candidates for other legislative positions, including 11 nominees for the House of Representatives and 30 for the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Speaking after the exercise, the Anambra State Chairman of the NDC, Ikem Uzoezie, commended the peaceful conduct of the primaries, describing them as transparent, credible, and one of the most orderly in the state’s political history.
He congratulated both successful and unsuccessful aspirants, noting that the process reflected maturity and sportsmanship within the party.
Speaking on behalf of the successful candidates, Onunkwo said the party’s flagbearers share a common commitment to advancing development in Anambra State.
“We are happy with the peaceful process and commend party members for their conduct. With this calibre of candidates, Anambra is set to experience more people-focused representation that will take the state to a higher level,” he said.
