President Donald Trump is in “excellent health” but has been advised to lose weight, according to a medical report released by the White House on Friday following his annual physical examination, conducted just weeks before his 80th birthday.
Trump, the oldest president ever inaugurated, has frequently highlighted his physical and mental fitness, often contrasting it with that of his predecessor, Joe Biden. His latest medical evaluation came amid questions about his apparent drowsiness during some public appearances and recurring bruising on his right hand.
“President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function,” wrote his physician, US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, in a three-page memo released by the White House.
The report summarized a comprehensive physical examination and diagnostic testing, concluding that Trump is “fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”
Doctors also provided preventive health recommendations, including dietary improvements, increased physical activity, continued weight loss, and the use of a low-dose aspirin.
According to the report, Trump stands 6 feet 3 inches (191 cm) tall and weighs 238 pounds (108 kg), 14 pounds (6.4 kg) more than during his last annual physical in April 2025. The memo estimated his cardiac age to be approximately 14 years younger than his actual age.
Trump also scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on a cognitive assessment, a result he has repeatedly cited while noting that previous presidents did not take the same test.
Bruising and medical history
Trump, who turns 80 on June 14, currently takes three medications: two to manage cholesterol and a low-dose aspirin for cardiovascular prevention.
Since returning to office, he has frequently appeared with bruising on his right hand, often concealed with makeup. Barbabella attributed the bruising to “minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking” combined with aspirin use, which can increase the likelihood of bruising.
The report follows earlier disclosures about Trump’s health. Last summer, the White House said he had been evaluated for leg swelling and diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in which damaged vein valves cause blood to pool in the legs. The condition can lead to swelling, cramping, and skin changes.
The memo also noted scarring on Trump’s right ear from a gunshot wound sustained during the 2024 assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. During the attack, a gunman fired multiple shots, killing one attendee and grazing Trump’s ear.
White House releases report after delay
Following the examination, Trump declared the check-up had gone “PERFECTLY” in a post on Truth Social. The White House later reinforced the message by sharing a photo of the president on social media with the caption: “PERFECT BILL OF HEALTH!”
The release of the medical report came three days after the examination, prompting some U.S. media outlets to note that the White House had initially departed from the usual practice of publishing a summary shortly after a presidential physical.
While administrations typically release health summaries within hours or days, the level of detail disclosed remains entirely at the president’s discretion.
Trump has long faced criticism over the transparency of his medical disclosures, and the timeline of his health evaluations during his second term has generated additional scrutiny. He referred to Tuesday’s appointment as a “six-month physical,” despite the White House previously describing it as an annual medical and dental examination.
The latest evaluation was Trump’s third medical examination since returning to office. His most recent scheduled annual physical took place in April 2025, followed by an unannounced hospital visit in October that the White House also characterized as an annual check-up.
