Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Monday formally declared her intention to seek re-election for a second term, signalling the start of early political mobilisation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the district.
Her declaration was made during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Kogi Central, bringing together party leaders, supporters, and key figures to discuss the future of the party ahead of the next election cycle.
The announcement was contained in a statement by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko.
According to the statement, the meeting focused on strengthening party unity and consolidating support across the five local government areas that make up the senatorial district, which remains a key political battleground in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Akpoti-Uduaghan said her decision followed extensive consultations and encouragement from constituents across the district.
“After due consultations and encouragement from my lovely husband, I am here to say I have accepted your calls to re-contest for my second term as your senator,” she said, drawing applause from supporters.
Party insiders say her declaration follows months of growing endorsements from community leaders and grassroots stakeholders, reflecting a steady consolidation of political support.
She also used the occasion to call for unity within the PDP, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s chances in future elections.
“This is the time to bring everyone back home. We must reconcile with those who may have had one issue or another, for the betterment of our party and the success of our elections ahead,” she said.
Speaking at the meeting, PDP Kogi Central Zonal Chairman Anthony Akuvada praised her performance in office, describing her as a transformational representative whose tenure has significantly impacted the district.
“Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has redefined representation in Kogi Central. Her performance has been exemplary, from infrastructure development to human capital empowerment,” he said.
He also commended her accessibility and engagement with constituents, noting that her leadership style has strengthened trust between the electorate and the party.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s first term has focused on interventions in education, youth and women empowerment, as well as advocacy for infrastructure development—efforts that have expanded her political influence within and beyond the district.
She also expressed appreciation to her husband, High Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Otuoze Uduaghan, Alema of Warri Kingdom, crediting him as a strong pillar of support in her political journey.
With her re-election bid now officially declared, attention is expected to shift to internal party dynamics and emerging political alignments ahead of the next election cycle.
