Real Madrid denies plans to appoint sporting director

Real Madrid have dismissed reports suggesting the club is considering appointing a sporting director, describing the claims as “categorically false.”

In a statement shared via Fabrizio Romano on X on Friday, the club reaffirmed its confidence in its current sporting structure.

“Real Madrid extraordinarily values the work that the club’s sports management has been carrying out, which has allowed us to live through one of the most successful periods in our history, including six European Cups in ten years,” the statement read.

The club praised its existing leadership, crediting it for delivering one of the most successful eras in its history, highlighted by six UEFA Champions League titles in the past decade.

The statement underscores Madrid’s continued trust in its current internal setup and appears aimed at quashing speculation about potential structural changes.

Real Madrid have long operated a unique organisational model, with transfer and sporting decisions largely handled by senior executives and key football figures, rather than a traditional sporting director, a system widely adopted by other top European clubs.

The denial comes amid ongoing speculation in Spanish media about possible internal changes, as elite clubs increasingly move towards centralised sporting director roles to streamline recruitment and long-term squad planning.
