Turaki-led PDP faction meets in Abuja

An emergency meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by the Tanimu Turaki–headed National Working Committee, alongside the Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees, is currently underway at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The meeting, the third convened this week, is focused on pressing party matters, particularly the planned national convention being organised by the Abdulrahman Mohamed-led caretaker committee.

At a similar meeting held on Wednesday, the Turaki-led faction expressed openness to reconciliation, noting that ongoing discussions were showing positive signs of reaching a truce.

The Abdulrahman Mohamed-led caretaker committee, reportedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has also indicated willingness to reconcile. However, it outlined conditions, including that its planned convention scheduled for March 29 and 30 must proceed as planned.

Key figures presiding over the ongoing NEC meeting include Tanimu Turaki, Adolphus Wabara, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, and former minister Jerry Gana.

In his opening remarks, Turaki informed members that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde had sent his apologies for being unable to attend. He also noted that the Bauchi State governor was expected at the meeting.

Turaki further disclosed that members would receive updates on reconciliation efforts during a closed-door session.

He expressed optimism about the party’s future, assuring members that efforts were underway to stabilise the PDP and ensure its participation in the 2027 general elections.
