Bandits kill businessman, kidnap pregnant wife in Kebbi

Armed bandits have killed a businessman, Sufiyanu Garba, and abducted his pregnant wife during an attack on their residence in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Friday in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area.

A senior brother to the abducted woman, Mohammed Yauri, confirmed the incident to The Telegraph in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

Yauri said the gunmen stormed the residence, shot Garba, and abducted his wife, Zainab Mohammed Yauri, taking her to an unknown destination.

He added that the deceased was buried on Friday afternoon in accordance with Islamic rites at the Birnin Kebbi main cemetery.

The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, Bashir Usman, also confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Friday, noting that an investigation had been launched.

“The Kebbi State Police Command expresses concern over an unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of today, 13th March 2026, in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi, which resulted in the death of Sufiyanu Garba, aged 35, and the abduction of his wife,” Usman said.

He added that detectives were immediately deployed to the scene after the incident was reported and have begun investigations.

The attack comes a day after at least 14 people were killed and several others injured in two separate bandit attacks in Dandume and Musawa local government areas of Katsina State.
