IGP appoints CSP Ali Giwa as force media officer

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Ali Giwa as the Force New Media Officer.

The former Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the appointment in a post on X on Sunday. “Equally, the IGP has approved the appointment of CSP Ali Giwa @aleeygiwa as Force New Media Officer,” Hundeyin wrote.

The role is part of a newly created New Media Office at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, designed to enhance the police’s digital communication strategy and improve public engagement.

Giwa is a Chief Superintendent of Police with over 15 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force, specialising in law enforcement, public order management, cybercrime investigation, and cybersecurity. He currently serves as a Cybersecurity Specialist at the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center in Abuja.

His previous roles include Police Assistant to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in the Department of Logistics and Supply (September 2023 – December 2024), Public Relations Officer at the Nigeria Police Cooperative Multi-Purpose Society Limited, Assistant Police Public Relations Officer at the Obalende Annex in Lagos, and Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command.

Giwa has also held operational positions such as crime officer, surveillance officer, and human rights officer across multiple police formations in Lagos.

The appointment follows the recent approval by the IGP of Anthony Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer, replacing Hundeyin as the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to a statement from the Force Headquarters, Placid is a seasoned officer with experience in administration, operations, intelligence, training, and international peacekeeping.

Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Placid hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the National Open University of Nigeria.
