Kidnappers have abducted a couple in Ilu-Abo, a community in Akure North Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The incident occurred on Friday when Jamiu Olawale and his wife, returning from their shop, were attacked in front of their home by gunmen who emerged from nearby bushes. During the attack, one of their neighbours, Patrick Ilumaro, was also shot while sitting outside. He was rushed to the hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident. Spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh said efforts are ongoing to secure the safe return of the abducted couple and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to Jimoh, Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal immediately deployed tactical teams and conventional operatives to comb surrounding bushes and adjoining areas to rescue the victims unharmed and apprehend the gunmen.
He appealed to the public to remain calm and provide credible information to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
