The Lagos State Government has announced a partnership with MTN Nigeria for the redevelopment and renaming of the Obalende under-bridge into Y’ELLO Bus Park.

In a statement posted on X on Tuesday, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the initiative is aimed at transforming the area into a functional, secure, and community-focused transport hub.

“I am pleased to announce that the Lagos State Government is collaborating with MTN Nigeria to redevelop and transform the Obalende under-bridge into a modern, well-structured transport hub to be known as Y’ELLO Bus Park,” Wahab said.

According to him, the project will convert what was previously a degraded and crime-prone space into an organised and regulated facility designed to serve commuters and residents.

Upon completion, the Y’ELLO Bus Park will feature a structured transport terminal, a recycling drop-off station, a road camp for officials of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and security agencies, more than 60 public toilet fixtures, kiosks, and other essential amenities.

Wahab said the design prioritises safety, health, and aesthetics, with solar-powered lighting to enhance night-time visibility, reduce blind spots, improve CCTV coverage, and deter criminal activity across the Obalende axis.

He added that the project includes the installation of a biodigester system to sustainably manage wastewater generated within the park, while a dedicated recycling station will help discourage illegal waste disposal.

“In line with our commitment to climate responsibility, the project will also feature solar panels to support long-term energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Tree planting is equally planned to improve air quality and enhance the visual appeal of the environment,” he said.

Wahab noted that the redevelopment reflects the state government’s resolve to reclaim public spaces and make them functional, sustainable, and safe for Lagos residents.
