Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has dismissed circulating claims of a confrontation between him and the Council of Afobajes regarding the selection of the new Awujale.
In a statement signed by the governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, the reports were described as “completely false and misleading.”
“The governor held a respectful consultative meeting with the Council of Afobajes, similar to prior engagements with the Olori Ebis, which helped foster harmony and even persuaded one kingmaker to withdraw a filed litigation,” the statement said.
The governor’s discussions, it added, focused on matters of mutual concern aimed at advancing traditional affairs in Ijebuland. “Contrary to the rumours, Governor Abiodun did not issue any threats or ultimatums. Statements attributed to him, including ‘No Kuye, No Awujale,’ are entirely fabricated and bear no relation to him or his administration. No Afobaje will attest to such an occurrence, as it never happened,” the statement emphasized.
It reiterated that Governor Abiodun remains committed to upholding due process, respecting the autonomy of traditional institutions, and ensuring a fair selection process for the new Awujale. “His administration continues to prioritise dialogue, harmony, and the preservation of cultural values,” it added.
The statement concluded by urging the public, traditional stakeholders, and the media to disregard the unfounded claims and rely solely on verified information from official sources.
