Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Nnaemeka Ignatius Ilo has officially assumed the role of Commandant of the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC).

The appointment comes as part of a strategic reshuffle of senior officers directed by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the Nigerian Air Force announced on X on Saturday.

Established initially as a Rehabilitation Centre for demobilised soldiers, NAFRC has evolved into a Resettlement Centre offering vocational and skills acquisition training. The Centre also runs the Senior Officers Entrepreneurship and Management Training program.

According to the NAF announcement, the redeployment “is aimed at strengthening leadership effectiveness and advancing the mandate of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” It is part of a broader effort “to enhance institutional capacity, professionalism, and the preparedness of the Armed Forces in support of national security and development objectives.”

Upon assuming office, AVM Ilo conducted a familiarisation tour of the Centre to assess facilities, engage with staff and personnel, and gain firsthand insight into ongoing resettlement and vocational training activities. The visit allowed him to identify areas needing both immediate attention and long-term intervention to support retiring and retired personnel in transitioning smoothly to civilian life.

Reaffirming his commitment to repositioning the Centre, AVM Ilo pledged to prioritise a conducive learning environment for trainees while improving welfare and working conditions for staff. He emphasised that “effective leadership, sustained investment in training infrastructure, and the welfare of instructors and trainees remain critical to enhancing personnel capacity and supporting enduring national security and development.”
