Tinubu laying foundations for long-term growth — Minister

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu is building a strong foundation for sustainable growth and shared prosperity.

A statement issued in Abuja by the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Malam Rabiu Ibrahim, noted that Idris made the remarks during a courtesy visit from members of the Grassroots Advocacy for Tinubu (GAT) 2027.

Idris said the administration has taken bold and sometimes difficult decisions to place Nigeria on a more sustainable path, with early signs of recovery emerging across key sectors of the economy.

“These steps are aimed at stabilising the economy and restoring confidence. What we are witnessing today are the foundations for long-term growth and shared prosperity,” he said.

The minister urged Nigerians to protect the country’s improving economic outlook through unity, responsible communication, and collective support for national policies. He warned that distorted narratives can undermine investor confidence and slow development, stressing that projecting stability and unity attracts investment and creates opportunities for citizens.

Idris commended the GAT 2027 group for its civic engagement and commitment to supporting accurate public information. He welcomed their proposal for a partnership with the Federal Ministry of Information and the National Orientation Agency to advance public enlightenment, youth engagement, and strategic communication.

“Advocacy groups play an important role in ensuring government policies reach the grassroots. Effective communication is essential for national stability and development,” he said.

The minister also reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to making Nigeria work for all citizens, regardless of religion or background, and assured the delegation that the ministry would continue collaborating with credible groups to ensure accurate information is widely disseminated.

GAT 2027 National Coordinator, Prof. Ochugudu Ipuele, said the group visited the ministry to brief the minister on its activities and to show solidarity with the ministry’s mandate.

“We are here to support your mission to inform Nigerians, clarify government policies, and take information to the grassroots. The group is committed to supporting President Tinubu’s policies by countering distorted narratives, especially during election periods, and by engaging young people. We are poised to respond in real time to false or misleading information in the public space,” he said.
