Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, on Tuesday evening visited President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja.
Although the details of their discussion were not disclosed, the visit is widely believed to be connected to the case of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Governor Otti had recently visited Kanu at the Sokoto prison, where the IPOB leader is serving his sentence. He was accompanied on that visit by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; the Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.
Otti has repeatedly stated his commitment to pursuing all lawful avenues to secure Kanu’s release.
Tuesday’s meeting with President Tinubu is therefore seen as part of the governor’s broader political and legal efforts to advance dialogue and explore possible federal-level solutions.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has called for greater efficiency and improved outcomes in the ongoing fight against insecurity across parts of the country.
The President made the demand during a closed-door meeting with service chiefs and heads of intelligence agencies at the State House on Tuesday. The session, which lasted more than an hour, was held in the President’s office.
Speaking after the meeting, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, said the discussions were robust and that the President issued fresh directives aimed at achieving stronger results against all forms of insecurity.
He assured Nigerians that security agencies are strengthening their coordination to ensure a peaceful and safe yuletide celebration across the country.
