Police confirm abduction of 12 female farmers in Borno

Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted 12 females in Mussa district, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Our correspondent gathered that the victims were taken while returning from their farms around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Confirming the incident in a telephone interview with The Telegraph on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, said the command has launched an investigation.

“There was an abduction yesterday in Askira-Uba. Twelve females were abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists while returning from the farm,” Daso said.

He called for calm, assuring that security efforts are currently underway. “The details are still sketchy, but I can confirm that efforts are ongoing. Once the operation is concluded, the findings will be made public,” he added.

Residents expressed concern over the incident and urged authorities to act swiftly to secure the release of the victims.

A resident, who requested anonymity, told The Telegraph: “The news reached us around 5 p.m. yesterday when relatives could not locate them. As a community, we have notified our elected representatives, traditional leaders, and security agencies.”

The abduction comes amid rising cases of kidnappings across Nigeria, with states including Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger still having some school students in the custody of bandits.
