Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to lead its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.

In a statement, ECOWAS announced that the election will take place on October 25, 2025, with the observation mission deployed from October 19 to 29, in line with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

“As Head of Mission, Osinbajo will lead a team of distinguished West Africans to engage key stakeholders and promote a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process,” the statement said. The delegation will also work closely with international and local observer groups to assess the polls.

The appointment, ECOWAS noted, reflects its commitment to strengthening democracy, peace, and stability across the West African region.

The Côte d’Ivoire vote comes at a pivotal moment, as several ECOWAS member states prepare for critical national elections amid ongoing democratic transitions.
