Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), taking place in New York, United States, from Monday, September 22 to Sunday, September 28, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, who confirmed that the Vice President is attending the global summit at the directive of President Bola Tinubu.
Vice President Shettima is scheduled to deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, during the General Debate session, between 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. (New York time).
In addition to addressing the General Assembly, the Vice President will participate in a high-level Climate Ambition Summit for Heads of State and Government, convened by the United Nations Secretary-General on the same day, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. At the summit, Nigeria is expected to unveil its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Climate Agreement.
Vice President Shettima will also attend a high-level roundtable on Adequate and Affordable Housing, hosted by the President of Kenya, as well as engage in a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Assembly.
Following the UNGA, the Vice President will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, where he is expected to meet with senior officials of Deutsche Bank before returning to Nigeria.
