The Anambra State Police Command has successfully repelled armed robbery attacks in the Oba and Awka areas of the state, recovering two vehicles previously snatched by the criminal gang.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, noting that the proactive security strategies implemented by the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, have continued to yield results in preventing criminal activities.
According to the statement, swift and coordinated responses by police operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Awka, and the Oba Division led to the recovery of the stolen vehicles during separate operations.
“Police operatives have recovered two abandoned, but suspected stolen vehicles in Oba and Awka, respectively. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspects,” the statement said.
In the first incident, around 10:10 p.m. on September 4, 2025, operatives from the Central Police Station, Awka, recovered a Lexus ES 350 with registration number Lagos BDG 350 JR along Parkers Road. The vehicle had earlier been snatched from a victim who was ambushed by four armed men operating in an unregistered tricycle along Ifite Road, Amaenyi.
In a separate incident in the early hours of September 5, 2025, police operatives from the Oba Division responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle near Mummy Hotel, along the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway. Upon arriving at the scene, they recovered a black Lexus RX 300 SUV with registration number Anambra AWK 31 DU, which had been left behind by unknown persons.
Both vehicles have since been secured at police stations for further investigation and safekeeping.
The command commended members of the public for their timely and helpful information, emphasizing that community-police collaboration remains a crucial element in the ongoing fight against crime in the state.
