The Emir of Zuru, Major General Muhammad Sami II (Rtd), has passed away at the age of 81 in a hospital in London.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the news on Sunday in a statement to The Telegraph.
A retired senior military officer, the late Emir served as the Military Governor of Bauchi State from 1984 to 1985 under the administration of General Muhammadu Buhari.
Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State received news of the Emir’s passing with profound sadness, describing him as a father figure, an elder statesman, and a wise leader who consistently prioritized the welfare of his people.
The late Emir is survived by four wives and seven children.
In an official condolence message, the Kebbi State Government expressed deep sorrow over the death of the revered monarch, noting his enduring contributions to peace, unity, and development within the Zuru Emirate and across Kebbi State.
“The government extends its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Zuru Emirate Council, the people of Zuru, and the entire Kebbi State,” the statement read.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”
