The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has referred the petition submitted by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) against popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde also known as Kwam 1 to the Police Command at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for further investigation.
Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that the petition concerns an incident on August 5, 2025, in which Kwam 1 allegedly attempted to obstruct a moving ValueJet aircraft at the Abuja airport.
The singer’s actions have sparked public outrage, with widespread condemnation and growing calls for his arrest and prosecution.
In response, the NCAA sent a formal petition to both the IGP and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, urging a “comprehensive criminal investigation and appropriate prosecution” of the singer. Kwam 1 is widely recognized as an ally of President Bola Tinubu and has performed at several rallies for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In addition to the petition, the NCAA imposed a six-month flight ban on the artist, warning that any domestic or international airline that transports him risks losing its operating license.
Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, strongly condemned the singer’s conduct, describing his attempt to block a moving aircraft as “unacceptable and reprehensible.”
Although Kwam 1 issued a public apology in a video released over the weekend, the recent remand of an unruly Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos, has intensified accusations of selective justice. Many are now demanding equal treatment and the immediate prosecution of the Fuji star.
The police have assured the public that the case will be properly investigated and that justice will be served in accordance with the law.
