Heavy monsoon rains and flash floods have killed at least 24 people, including 12 children, across Pakistan since the start of the rainy season this week, according to disaster management officials.

In Punjab province, 13 people — eight of them children — died after walls and roofs collapsed under intense downpours, the provincial disaster agency reported Saturday.

In the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, officials confirmed 11 fatalities within 24 hours, including four children and three women. Most of the deaths occurred in Swat Valley, where flash floods swept away families gathered by a riverbank, according to local media.

The province also reported 56 damaged houses, six of which were completely destroyed.

The national meteorological agency has warned that the risk of further heavy rainfall and flash flooding remains high through Tuesday.

Pakistan, home to over 240 million people, is among the countries most vulnerable to climate change. The country has faced a growing number of extreme weather events, including deadly hailstorms and severe flooding. Just last month, 32 people were killed in storms across the nation.
