Suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, paid a visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga shared photos of the meeting on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, captioning them:

“Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers, now on suspension from office, visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday.”

However, the specific details of the discussion between the two leaders have not yet been made public.

The meeting comes several months after President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly amid a prolonged political crisis in the state.

The turmoil in Rivers State stems from a fierce power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. The rift quickly engulfed the state legislature, splitting lawmakers into rival factions—one loyal to Wike and the other aligned with the embattled governor.

In a controversial move that drew national and international attention, President Tinubu on March 18 suspended Fubara, Deputy Governor Odu, and the entire House of Assembly for six months. He also appointed retired naval officer Ibok-Ette Ibas as the sole administrator of the state.

According to the President, the decision was necessary to restore peace and stability after several failed attempts at reconciliation and amid growing security concerns, including pipeline explosions in the region.

“With all these and many more, no good and responsible President will stand by and allow the grave situation to continue without taking remedial steps prescribed by the Constitution to address the situation in the state, which no doubt requires extraordinary measures to restore good governance, peace, order, and security,” Tinubu said at the time.

Despite his suspension, Fubara has consistently expressed a desire for peace in the oil-rich state and a willingness to reconcile with Wike, whom he still refers to as his political mentor.
