Only 200 youths registered for army recruitment in South East – Official

The Leader of the Army Force Headquarters Recruitment Sensitisation Team in Anambra State, Brigadier General Chima Ekeator, has revealed that only 200 youths from the South-East have so far registered for the ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment exercise.

Ekeator made the disclosure during a sensitisation meeting held for youth leaders and President-Generals (P-Gs) of various communities across the state.

He stressed the need for community leaders to actively encourage young people to participate in the recruitment, highlighting the region’s low turnout compared to other parts of the country.

“This sensitisation is necessary because, according to official records, only 200 youths have registered from the entire South-East region, whereas in some other states, over 4,000 applicants have registered,” he said.

“We are calling on youth leaders and community heads to return to their communities and engage with the youth. It is important they understand that participating in this recruitment will help improve South-East representation in the Nigerian Army and ensure the region’s quota is fully utilized.”

Representing Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo at the event, Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, assured the Army of the government’s commitment to supporting increased youth participation in the recruitment exercise.

He urged traditional rulers and P-Gs to work together in mobilising at least 10 eligible youths from each community to apply.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, reiterated that the recruitment targets youths aged between 18 and 22 years. He encouraged all qualified individuals to take advantage of the opportunity to serve their country through the Nigerian Army.
