Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has dismissed rumors circulating online that he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a post on his X handle on Monday, Fayemi reaffirmed his commitment to the APC, stating that he remains a card-carrying foundation member of the party. He acknowledged his ongoing advocacy for improved internal democracy and inclusivity within the APC but emphasized that he believes there is still time for the party to change its direction.
Fayemi’s post read: “Nothing Has Changed – Fayemi. My attention has been drawn to a story circulating on several online platforms regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC). As I have stated before, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.”
He continued, “While I have been at the forefront of demanding greater internal democracy and inclusion in the ruling party, I believe it is not too late for our party to change course and move towards greater inclusion and internal democracy.”
Fayemi’s clarification comes on the same day that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai officially defected from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). In a statement released Monday, El-Rufai expressed his dissatisfaction with the APC’s leadership, accusing the party of deviating from the progressive ideals it was founded upon.
