The Sultan of Sokoto and Leader of the Muslim Ummah of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has officially declared the commencement of fasting for the month of Ramadan, starting today, Saturday, March 1, 2025.

In his announcement on Friday, the Sultan explained that the decision was based on verified reports from various Muslim leaders across the country, which had been thoroughly authenticated.

“Today, Friday, February 28, 2025, marks the end of Sha’ban. Reports of the positive sighting of the new crescent of Ramadan have been received from across the nation. After careful verification, these reports have been accepted,” the Sultan stated.

“Therefore, tomorrow, March 1, 2025, marks the beginning of 1st Ramadan 1446 After Hijrah,” he continued.

The Sultan urged Muslims throughout Nigeria to begin their fast and called on them to offer prayers for the nation’s leaders, asking for guidance in leading the country and its people. He also encouraged prosperous Muslims to support the less fortunate during this blessed period.
