Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes took a significant blow on Saturday as they were defeated 1-0 at home by struggling West Ham, despite the Gunners playing with a numerical advantage for most of the match.
Jarrod Bowen scored the only goal of the game just before half-time, and Arsenal, ravaged by injuries, failed to respond after Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off in the 73rd minute. The defeat leaves Arsenal still eight points behind leaders Liverpool in second place.
In another dramatic clash, Manchester United fought back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw at Everton, avoiding what would have been their ninth league defeat in 13 matches.
Everton dominated the first half, with Beto giving them the lead in the 19th minute and Abdoulaye Doucoure doubling their advantage with a header. United’s defensive frailties were exposed as Harry Maguire failed to clear a loose ball after a save from Andre Onana, allowing Doucoure to score.
However, United fought back in the second half. Bruno Fernandes pulled one back with a free-kick in the 72nd minute, and Manuel Ugarte leveled things with a powerful shot eight minutes later.
Everton almost regained the lead late on when Ashley Young went down in the box under a challenge from Maguire, but after a VAR review, the penalty decision was overturned.
