One person has been confirmed dead and five others injured in a tragic auto crash that occurred on February 1, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m. near Redemption Camp along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway in Mowe.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident in a statement issued yesterday. According to the report, the Sagamu Divisional Police Headquarters received the alert regarding the accident.
The collision involved a Mack 40-ft container truck with registration number T-24572 LA, driven by Mr. Sanni Saifullahi of AY and Rolly’s Ventures, Magodo, Lagos, and a Toyota Sienna with registration number FST 525 YJ, driven by Mr. Sunday Okpe of Miracle Ultima International Ltd.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the Toyota Sienna, traveling from Osun State to Lagos with seven passengers onboard, lost control and crashed into the rear of the container truck. The impact claimed the life of Ms. Miracle Chibuzor, a front-seat passenger from Miracle Ultima International Ltd, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The injured passengers were quickly transported to Famobis Hospital, Lotto, Mowe, by traffic police officers for medical care. The body of the deceased was moved to Idera Morgue for an autopsy and official death certification.
In order to prevent further accidents, traffic police cleared the scene and removed the wreckage, which was later taken to the Sagamu Police Station for inspection by Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs).
In a separate incident earlier the same day, at approximately 8:10 a.m., another fatal crash occurred at the Ile-Oba area along the Ogijo/Ita-Oluwo/Ikorodu Road.
A TVS tricycle, registered under license plate number Lagos BDG 561QN and driven by 21-year-old Usman Abdullahi, collided with a female pedestrian whose identity remains unknown. According to initial reports, the pedestrian was crossing the road when the tricycle, en route to the Ogijo main park, struck her. She sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to Omowunmi Hospital in Kusela, Ogijo, where she tragically passed away while receiving treatment.
Police officers, who were the first responders, secured the scene, took measurements, and documented photographic evidence. The tricycle has been impounded at the police station for inspection by VIOs, while the driver remains in custody as investigations continue.
CSP Odutola confirmed that the deceased’s body will be transferred to the morgue for preservation and an autopsy.
