Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reinstated Jonathan Zamuna as the Paramount Chief of Piriga Chiefdom in Lere Local Government Area, following a court ruling.
Zamuna was deposed on May 22, 2023, by then-Governor Nasir El-Rufai just days before the end of his tenure. Unhappy with the decision, Zamuna approached the National Industrial Court in Kaduna, which ruled on June 14, 2024, that his dethronement was “irregular, unfair, null, and void.”
Justice Bashar Alkali ordered that Zamuna be restored to his position with all associated salaries, allowances, entitlements, and benefits within 30 days.
In July 2024, Governor Sani assured traditional rulers that he would comply with the court’s ruling. He reiterated his commitment to the rule of law, stating, “I am a democrat and a respecter of the rule of law. Our administration stands for justice, fairness, and due process.”
On Wednesday, Governor Sani fulfilled his promise, reinstating Zamuna at a ceremony in the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna. The governor congratulated the chief and urged him to lead with fairness and inclusivity, without any ethno-religious bias.
Reflecting on the significance of the reinstatement, Governor Sani said, “This is an opportunity to serve with dedication, courage, and compassion. Our administration will continue to uphold the principles of justice and fairness.”
In response, an appreciative Chief Zamuna thanked Governor Sani, calling his leadership a blessing to the state and commending his commitment to justice and stability.
