Court orders remand of suspects linked to bandit kingpin, Turji

Federal High Court, Abuja.
Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of four suspected terrorists linked to notorious bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, at Kuje Correctional Centre.

In a brief ruling, Justice Nwite issued the order after the defendants pleaded not guilty to an 11-count charge related to terrorism.

The case has been adjourned until February 10 for trial. The four suspects: Musa Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu (also known as Doctor), Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma denied involvement in the offences as the charges were read to them.

While eight defendants were named in the charge, three, including Bello Turji, remain at large.

The Federal Government, represented by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, filed the 11-count charge against the eight defendants, four of whom are still on the run.

The suspects are accused of providing material support to terrorist groups, including the procurement and supply of illicit drugs such as penta injections and cannabis, as well as food items, military and police uniforms, and camouflage gear.
