President Bola Tinubu has appointed Nwakuche Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), following the expiration of Haliru Nababa’s tenure.

The appointment, effective December 15, 2024, was announced in a statement on Friday by Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Board.

According to the statement, President Tinubu “graciously approved the appointment of Nwakuche Sylvester Ndidi as Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, following the expiration of the tenure of Haliru Nababa.” It further highlighted Ndidi’s credentials, noting that he is a fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies and a recipient of the Member of the Federal Republic (MFR) national honor. Prior to his new role, Ndidi served as Deputy Controller-General, overseeing the Training and Staff Development Directorate.

The President also urged Ndidi to apply his extensive experience to his new responsibilities.

Haliru Nababa, the outgoing Controller-General, was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021. Before his appointment, Nababa held leadership roles in various custodial centers across the country, including those in Sokoto, Yobe, and Adamawa states.
