South Korean lawmakers began voting on Saturday on a motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his brief declaration of martial law, despite a boycott by most MPs from the ruling party, a live TV broadcast revealed.
Lawmakers started casting their secret ballots in the National Assembly, but it remained uncertain whether enough members from the ruling People Power Party, who had previously walked out, would return to join the opposition in securing the two-thirds majority required to pass the motion.
