A bill aimed at amending the constitution to enable Nigerians in the diaspora to vote has successfully passed its second reading in the House of Representatives on Wednesday.

Co-sponsored by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen and Sodeeq Abdullahi, the bill seeks to amend the 2022 Electoral Act to grant voting rights to Nigerians living abroad.

The bill initially passed its first reading in July before being referred to the Committee on Electoral Matters for further review. After clearing the second reading on Tuesday, it has now been referred to the Constitution Amendment Committee for additional legislative steps.
