The Abuja Division of the Appeal Court has removed Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, from his position as National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
In a ruling on Friday, the court upheld Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa as the legitimate President of the union, affirming the judgment of the Industrial Court delivered on March 11, 2024, in Suit No. NICN/ABJ/263/2023.
The court dismissed the appeal filed by Najeem Usman Yasin, Tajudeen Agbede, and others, who had challenged the Industrial Court’s decision recognizing Baruwa as NURTW President. The appellate judges found the appeal to be without merit.
A three-member panel comprising Justice Hamma Akawu Barka, Justice Nnamdi Okwy Dimgba, and Justice Asmau Ojuolape Akanbi concluded that Baruwa is the legally elected President of NURTW. The court also awarded N100,000 in costs against the appellants in favor of the respondents.
MC Oluomo was recently elected and sworn in as NURTW President, but Baruwa has criticized his actions as a blatant disregard for the rule of law, calling it an affront to the judiciary. Baruwa made the statement during a press conference in Abuja.
