Labour Party releases primaries timetable, fixes presidential form at ₦50m

The Labour Party has unveiled its timetable and schedule of activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, outlining key dates and nomination fees for aspirants across all elective positions.

The party disclosed that its primaries will be conducted in two phases: House of Assembly and governorship primaries are scheduled for May 27, 2026, while National Assembly and presidential primaries will hold on May 29, 2026.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, the party said the timetable complies with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended), the Electoral Act 2026, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revised schedule for the 2027 elections.

According to the schedule, the sale of nomination forms will run from May 6 to May 16, 2026, while submission of completed forms is fixed for May 17 to May 18.

Screening of aspirants will hold on May 20 for House of Assembly and governorship positions, and May 22 for National Assembly and presidential aspirants. Screening results will be published on May 23.

Appeals will be heard on May 24 for House of Assembly and governorship candidates, and on May 25 for National Assembly and presidential aspirants, while the final list of cleared candidates will be released on May 26.

Nomination fees

The party set nomination fees at ₦3 million for House of Assembly aspirants (₦1 million for expression of interest and ₦2 million for nomination forms). House of Representatives aspirants will pay ₦5 million, while Senate aspirants are required to pay ₦10 million.

Governorship aspirants will pay ₦25 million in total (₦5 million for expression of interest and ₦20 million for nomination forms). However, the party said Governor Alex Otti will be issued the form free of charge by the National Working Committee (NWC).

Presidential aspirants are to pay ₦50 million in total, comprising ₦10 million for expression of interest and ₦40 million for nomination forms.

Concessions

The Labour Party also approved concessions for specific categories of aspirants, stating that women, persons with disabilities, and youths aged 25 to 30 will only pay for expression of interest forms across all positions, in line with its principle of “Equal Opportunity and Social Justice.”

The party urged prospective aspirants who are not yet members to complete registration ahead of the primaries.

“The Labour Party urges all prospective aspirants for the 2027 elections who are yet to register with the party to take advantage of the ongoing membership e-registration and register before midnight of Monday, May 4, 2026,” it said.
