Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday represented President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of key infrastructure projects in Lagos, including the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge.
Also unveiled were the Multi-Agency Complex and the Lagos Geographic Information System (LAGIS) building in Alausa, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Administrative Complex.
Akpabio described the projects as vital to the continued growth of Nigeria’s commercial hub, noting that the 5.04-kilometre Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge would significantly ease traffic congestion, boost economic activity, and reduce travel time for residents.
“More than just a road, it is a bridge to opportunity. In Lagos, movement is everything. When traffic improves, productivity grows, and lives get better,” he said.
He added that the LAGIS facility represents the future of governance and urban planning.
“Data drives development, and a modern land administration system is essential to unlocking economic value.
“These projects align with our national vision: a Nigeria that is modern, digitally enabled, and economically strong. We must replicate this standard across the country,” he said.
Akpabio also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his administration’s infrastructural drive and urged residents to safeguard the facilities.
“To the people of Lagos, these projects are for you. Protect them and build on them. I commend the governor and his team for their financial discipline and commitment to service delivery,” he added.
The event drew several prominent figures, including Governors Dapo Abiodun, Douye Diri, Hope Uzodinma, and Babagana Zulum, alongside members of the National and State Assemblies and leaders of the Governor’s Advisory Council led by Tajudeen Olusi.
President Tinubu had been expected to personally inaugurate the projects following widespread publicity by the presidency and the Lagos State Government. However, no official reason was given for his absence as of the time of filing this report.
‘Viable Alternative Route’
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge would significantly reduce travel time and improve quality of life for Lagos residents.
He explained that the new infrastructure would ease pressure on major roads and enhance traffic flow across key corridors.
“We now have a brand-new bridge that provides a direct connection from Opebi-Allen to Ikorodu Road through the Odo Iya-Alaro and Mende corridor, creating a viable alternative route,” he said.
“It will reduce pressure on existing corridors such as Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Kudirat Abiola Road, and the Maryland axis. The objective is straightforward: to improve traffic efficiency, with benefits extending beyond the immediate environs.
“It will improve the quality of life for Lagosians, reduce commuting stress, boost productivity, and allow more time to be spent with loved ones instead of in traffic,” the governor added.
