Former Senegal national football team coach Aliou Cissé has stepped down as head coach of the Libya national football team after just 10 matches in charge, he announced on Wednesday.
Cissé’s final two games ended in draws last month, in international friendlies against Niger and Liberia.
“This March has been very special for me, as it marked my last gathering as coach of the Libyan national team,” he said. “This adventure has been incredibly enriching, both professionally and personally.”
The 48-year-old previously spent nearly a decade in charge of Senegal from 2015 to 2024, leading the Teranga Lions to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title in 2021, having finished runners-up in 2019.
Libya, meanwhile, missed out on a maiden FIFA World Cup appearance, finishing third in their qualifying group behind Cameroon and Cape Verde.
