Police rescue three-day-old baby in Nasarawa, arrest two suspects

The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued a three-day-old baby boy abducted from his mother’s home and arrested two suspects in connection with the crime.

Police spokesman SP Ramhan Nansel disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to Nansel, the mother, 19-year-old Aisha Bada of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, Mararaba in Karu Local Government Area, reported to the police on March 29 that unknown individuals had broken into her home and taken her newborn son.

“On 28th March 2026, at about 11:50 a.m., while she was asleep with her three-day-old baby in her unfinished building at the outskirts of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, two unidentified men forced their way in, threatened her with violence, and abducted the baby to an unknown location,” he said.

Her husband, Abubakar Isah, a commercial tricycle rider, had been away in Lagos for business for the past five months.

Following the report, Commissioner of Police Shetima Mohammed ordered detectives from Mararaba ‘A’ Division to visit the scene and launched a full-scale investigation.

Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives arrested two suspects early Thursday at around 4 a.m., 35-year-old Furera Abdulrahman of Rugan Juli and 39-year-old Sadiya Abdullahi of Unguwan Bako, Orange Market, and recovered the baby from their custody.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed and implicated an accomplice who is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” Nansel added.

The rescued baby was taken to the Medical Centre in Mararaba, where he was certified healthy before being reunited with his parents.

The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation after preliminary inquiries.

“The Nasarawa State Police Command reassures the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property and urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station,” the spokesman said.
