President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday received Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, days after the deadly Palm Sunday attack in Jos.
The attack, which occurred in the Angwan Rukuba area, left no fewer than 28 people dead.
According to the State House media office, the governor arrived at the Villa at about 6:45 p.m. for a meeting prompted by the worsening security situation in the North-Central state.
The engagement followed an earlier directive by the President, who summoned the governor for urgent consultations.
In the aftermath of the killings, Tinubu described the attack as barbaric and vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President also condemned a separate attack in Kahir village, Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where wedding guests were killed and abducted.
“Anyone who sneaks under the cover of darkness to kill defenceless citizens, as seen in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward,” the President said.
While condemning the violence, Tinubu commended Governor Mutfwang for his efforts to stabilise the situation in Jos and directed security agencies to intensify operations to apprehend those responsible.
He also cautioned against framing the attacks along religious lines, warning that such narratives could further inflame tensions.
The Wednesday meeting is expected to focus on immediate measures to strengthen security and prevent further attacks in Plateau State.
Meanwhile, the President is scheduled to visit Jos on Thursday to commiserate with the government and people of the state.
Tinubu had initially planned to travel to Iperu, Ogun State, to inaugurate operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport but postponed the trip in light of the recent attacks.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled visit to Iperu and will instead travel to Jos to sympathise with victims of the attacks,” Onanuga said.
