Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has dismissed speculations that he may oppose President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Otti made the clarification during his monthly media chat on Friday, describing the claims as baseless.
His remarks followed a recent statement by the lawmaker representing Isialangwa North and South in the National Assembly, Ginger Onwusibe, who had said the governor would not stand against Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Reacting, Otti criticised individuals he described as “self-styled opposition figures,” accusing them of manufacturing unnecessary political tension.
Otti’s election in 2023 marked a major political shift in Abia State, ending the Peoples Democratic Party’s 24-year dominance. He contested on the platform of the Labour Party, and his victory was later affirmed by the courts after a series of legal challenges.
The governor has also continued to dismiss rumours suggesting he may defect from the Labour Party.
