The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 171 students for presenting falsified admission entry qualifications.

The decision was made at the Senate’s 433rd meeting on March 4, 2026, following an investigation by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities, the university stated in its weekly bulletin on Friday.

“The Senate of Bayero University, Kano, at its 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications,” the statement read.

BUK noted that the offence violates Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which prescribes expulsion for such misconduct. The expelled students span various departments and academic levels, and the action is part of ongoing efforts to sanitise the university’s academic records.

In a related decision, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, for allegedly assaulting invigilators during an examination, an act that disrupted the conduct of the exam and breached the university’s disciplinary regulations.

The university reiterated its commitment to upholding academic integrity, warning that breaches of its rules would continue to attract strict sanctions.

“This mass expulsion serves as a stern warning to current and prospective students that BUK maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward both academic fraud and indiscipline,” the statement added.
