Tinubu nominates Lamido Yuguda as CBN deputy governor

President Bola Tinubu has nominated former Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Lamido Yuguda, as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed the nomination in a statement on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the appointment is subject to confirmation by the Senate and was made in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

“The President charges him to discharge his responsibilities with renewed dedication, professionalism, and commitment to Nigeria’s economic stability and growth,” the statement read.

Yuguda served as Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission from 2020 to 2024.

His nomination follows the recent appointment of former CBN Deputy Governor Bala Bello as Special Adviser to the President on Political Economy.

An economist by training, Yuguda is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a charterholder of the CFA Institute.

He began his career at the Central Bank of Nigeria in 1984 as a senior supervisor in the foreign operations department.

Between 1997 and 2001, he worked as an economist in the Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund before returning to the CBN.

Yuguda later served as Director of the Reserve Management Department for six years before retiring from the apex bank in 2016.

On February 22, 2024, he was confirmed alongside 12 others as members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
