Bola Tinubu on Tuesday asked the Senate to screen and confirm Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Doris Uzoka-Anite.

The request was conveyed in a letter read on the Senate floor by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during plenary following the chamber’s three-week recess for the budget defence exercise.

The nomination was subsequently referred to the Committee of the Whole for legislative consideration.

President Tinubu also asked the Senate to confirm Magnus Abe as Chairman of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), alongside two commissioner nominees.

In a separate letter, the president sought confirmation of Mainasara Illo as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre. The nomination was referred to the Senate Committees on Narcotics and Drugs and Sports for joint screening.

Another correspondence requested the confirmation of Francis Ifeanyi Asogwa as a commissioner representing the South-East in a federal commission. The Senate referred the nomination to its Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.

The Senate also received requests to confirm two nominees as commissioners of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission: Amina Gamawa from Bauchi State and Abdullahi Murktar from Kaduna State.

All the nominations were referred to the relevant Senate committees for further legislative action and screening.

If confirmed, Oyedele — who chaired President Tinubu’s tax reforms committee will replace Uzoka-Anite as Minister of State for Finance.

His nomination was first announced last week in a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

Uzoka-Anite is expected to move to the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, her third portfolio in the current administration.

Oyedele, 50, is a public policy expert, accountant and economist. He previously served as Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).

He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

Meanwhile, the Senate also received the 2026 statutory budget of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from President Tinubu for consideration and approval.
