Benue gov vows to crush insecurity, restore peace across state

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State
The Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, has pledged to eliminate insecurity and ensure lasting peace in all communities across the state.

Alia made the declaration on Monday while receiving a briefing on the deployment and reinforcement of security personnel to troubled areas, particularly in Kwande Local Government Area and other affected parts of the state.

Kwande LGA has recently become a hotspot for violent attacks, with several casualties reported, including security operatives. The latest incidents occurred in Nyihemba and Anwase Abande communities last Thursday, where scores of residents were reportedly killed.

In a statement issued by his Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, Solomon Iorpev, the governor commended security agencies for their efforts in restoring calm. He reiterated that perpetrators of violence would be brought to justice, adding that the current deployment of security personnel marks the start of a decisive clampdown on criminal elements.

“Bandits and those seeking to disrupt peace in Benue will be hunted down and prosecuted. We will protect our people, their farms, and their communities. I will not be intimidated. I will not be deterred. I will crush insecurity in Benue State,” Alia declared.

The governor assured residents that the state government is working tirelessly to safeguard lives and property.

The Telegraph had earlier reported that one person was killed and two others injured when armed bandits attacked a Civil Protection Guard checkpoint in Abaji Town, Katsina-Ala LGA. Security analyst Zagazola Makama, citing sources on X, said the incident occurred on Wednesday, March 4. The deceased, Aondohemba Kavee, 43, was shot during the attack, while Orgase Nyikya and passerby Tyolumum Tsenongu sustained gunshot injuries.
