The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has postponed the inauguration of its newly elected state executive committee following the death of the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary-elect, Karamo Yesiro.
Yesiro died on Wednesday, hours after attending the Lagos APC congress held on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, where he emerged as Assistant Publicity Secretary.
The Lagos APC confirmed the development in a statement issued on Thursday by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo.
“The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress received with profound shock and deep sorrow the news of the sudden demise of our newly elected Assistant Publicity Secretary, Karamo Yesiro,” the statement read.
It described his passing as a painful loss, noting that his energy, commitment, and passion for progressive politics were greatly valued.
“Having just been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the State Executive Council, he embodied dedication, loyalty, and an unwavering belief in the ideals of our party,” the statement added.
Party leaders and supporters had earlier gathered at the APC secretariat in Acme Road on Thursday for the planned inauguration before learning that the event had been postponed in honour of the late Yesiro.
Following the announcement, party leaders proceeded to pay a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
Some party stalwarts later disclosed that the inauguration of the state executives had been rescheduled for Friday.
The newly elected Lagos APC executive committee, which will serve a four-year term, is led by the state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi.
Other members of the executive include Moshood Olanrewaju, Deputy Chairman; Adeola Jokomba, Secretary; Azizat Mariam, Assistant Secretary; Seye Oladejo, Publicity Secretary; Babajide Sunday, Vice Chairman; Shola Eletu, Woman Leader; and Ayodele Adewale, Organising Secretary.
The congress that produced the executives was attended by Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa; leader of the Governor’s Advisory Council Tajudeen Olusi; and Secretary to the State Government Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin.
